What is Evangelization?

Evangelization means to fulfill the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ, who commanded us to “Go and make disciples of all nations” ( Mt . 28:18). “The transmission of the Christian faith consists primarily in proclaiming Jesus Christ in order to lead others to faith in him. From the beginning, the first disciples burned with the desire to proclaim Christ: 'We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard' (Acts 4:20). And they invite people of every era to enter into the joy of their communion with Christ.' (Catechism of the Catholics Church #425)

Who is Responsible for Evangelization?

Every baptized person: “To teach in order to lead others to faith is the task of every preacher and of each believer” (St. Thomas Aquinas). 

What is the Role of Evangelization in the Overall Life of the Church?

“The Church in her very nature is missionary, sent by Christ to all nations to make disciples of them.”  (Catechism of the Catholic Church #767) 

“Evangelization is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity,  She exists in order to evangelize.”  (Pope Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14) 

“The pilgrim Church is missionary by her very nature, since it is from the mission of the Son and the mission of the Holy Spirit that she draws her origin, in accordance with the decree of God the Father.”  (Vatican Council II, Ad Gentes, 2) 

“It is the duty of the Church to proclaim always and everywhere the Gospel of Jesus Christ…”  (Pope Benedict XVI, Apostolic Letter Ubicumque et Semper establishing the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization)
