St. John Paul II, pray for us.
Relics of St. John Paul II
Through the generous providence of God, Sacred Heart Parish has been blessed
to receive the gift of two first-class relics of Pope St. John Paul II (d. 2005), the revered Polish pope who led the Church into the 21st century and helped free Eastern Europe from political tyranny. These relics of the blood of the saintly pope were entrusted by Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, Pope John Paul II’s personal secretary, to Father Wojciech Jarzecki, our former pastor, during his visit to Poland in 2017.
We at Sacred Heart Parish rejoice in possessing relics capable of enhancing the
Christian life and faith of our local parish. We believe that they will act as a touchstone for increased devotion to Jesus Christ and offer all a reminder of the holiness and wisdom of a beloved pontiff.
Since receiving the relic, we have been blessed to host a number of events with St. John Paul II's relics present:
Relic Chapel
The St. John Paul II Relic Chapel, built within our future Sacred Heart Parish church complex, will furnish a beautiful home for the relics, providing a place for private veneration, while also serving as a destination of special devotional interest for Catholics throughout Alberta and across North America.
